Clint Baker Lecture Visit

Clint Baker Visit

Over all Clint Baker was remarkable and inspirational.  He spoke on things that are relevant to the students’ future success and he was humble.  It wasn’t just about his work of art and his success.   He exemplified passion for his work while delivering a message that can relate to anyone.  I particularly enjoyed his answer to my question of the process of obtaining information in this new era of access to excessive knowledge.  He enforced my thoughts of focusing on what is important to learn for you.  Figuring out what you want to learn and do is key, and the only way to get that is thru experiences and time.  He also advised us to move to California or New York to find art related opportunities.

These are other tips he recommended us to follow
  • ·      Be honest with yourself about your marketability
  • ·      Be excited about your work
  • ·      Physically go where people buy what you are selling.
  • ·      Post everywhere – join the vast community of artists
  • ·      Constantly monitor your pricing
  • ·      Never stop exploring your craft
  • ·      Grow, Grow
  • ·      The client has to trust you so exude confidence
  • ·      Deliver results that match or exceed client expectations

How do you get clients?
  • ·      Portfolio
  • ·      Marketability
  • ·      Go where the work is
  • ·      Make connections
  • ·      Monitor your prices
  • ·      Explore your craft
  • ·      Confidence
  • ·      Personality
  • ·      Deliver work that matches expectations
